ANC battery life: how to compare manufacturer claims
A practical way to compare battery figures without treating marketing maxima as real-world guarantees.
Use like-for-like settings
Battery specifications often list two different figures: music playback with active noise cancelling turned on and playback with it turned off. These are not interchangeable. A model advertising 70 hours with ANC off cannot be compared directly with one claiming 50 hours with ANC on. Start by writing down the same setting for every candidate. If the manufacturer does not publish the condition, record the value as unknown rather than filling the gap with an estimate.
Identify what the test represents
A laboratory-style runtime statement is a manufacturer claim, not a promise about your commute. Volume, codec, connection quality, microphone use, temperature and enabled sound features can change the outcome. Manufacturers may use different test phones and listening levels. Read the note attached to the number and keep it together with the figure. For example, Sennheiser specifies an iPhone at medium volume for its ACCENTUM ANC-on claim.
Do not mistake fast charging for total capacity
Quick-charge claims describe a short charge session and a certain amount of resulting playback under stated conditions. They do not mean the headphone charges fully in that time. Charging hardware, cable and battery health also matter. When comparing travel options, separate full-charge time, short-charge benefit and the maximum published playback time into three different questions.
Make a realistic travel checklist
Start with how long you will be away from power. Then consider whether you usually leave ANC enabled, whether a wired mode works after the battery is empty, and whether charging during a break is realistic. Carrying comfort, case bulk and regional USB charging support may matter more than an extra theoretical hour. A shortlist should reflect actual use rather than a single largest specification.
Recheck before paying
Manufacturers change firmware and model generations, while stores sometimes merge multiple variants into one listing. Confirm the exact model name, battery conditions and supplied accessories in the official product manual. Do not use a price badge or user review as a substitute for verifying those facts. MELIQA leaves seller prices empty until a retailer offer has been checked.
This is an informational guide, not a hands-on review. Product offers and retailer availability must be independently verified.
